Sheet metal screws are commonly referred to as self-tapping screws and/or “self-tappers” and/or tapping screws. Sheet metal screws have a threaded shaft under the head with a sharp point at the end of the screw and many times are used with a a pre-drilled hole. Sheet metal screws or tapping screws are available in several head styles such as pan head, flat head (undercut), oval head (undercut) truss head, and hex washer head. Sheet metal tapping screws have both Phillips drive (most common) and slotted drive and also are available in zinc plated ZP steel and stainless-steel SS.
